GTA 6 Heists: How They Work and How to Prepare

Heists are the structure the whole series builds toward. What the format looks like, how preparation works, and what to do before the job.

A heist in this series is three phases: setup, approach, execution. Most failures happen in the first, because it is the least interesting and gets rushed.

The three phases

Setup

Gathering vehicles, equipment and information. Boring, and it decides your payout. Do not skip optional setups that reduce risk.

Approach

The choice between loud and quiet, or their equivalent. Quiet pays more and needs preparation. Loud is forgiving and costs you.

Execution

The job itself, plus the escape. The escape is the part players prepare least and lose most often.

Prepare like this

  1. Bank the money for setups first. Running short mid heist wastes the whole run.
  2. Fix your loadout before you start. See weapon classes.
  3. Plan the escape route on the map before the job, not during it.
  4. If you are playing with others, agree the split up front. Our crew guide covers this.
